What to expect

Your first week with us

A typical interior job, day by day: what you do and what you'll see. Your estimate gives your own days.

  1. 01

Step 1: Before day one: the color plan

You've picked the colors and read the plan.

    • You do: choose the colors and sign the estimate

    • You'll see: a color plan with each room's name and sheen

  2. 02

Step 2: Day 1: cover and prep

The crew arrives with the sample boards and the paint.

    • You do: clear small items and tell us about pets

    • You'll see: furniture covered, floors protected, holes filled

  3. 03

Step 3: Day 2: primer and first coat

Spot-priming, then the first coat on ceilings and walls.

    • You do: stay out of the room while the paint is wet

    • You'll see: the real color on the wall for the first time

  4. 04

Step 4: Day 3: second coat and trim

Second coat, then trim and doors.

    • You do: look at the walls in morning and evening light

    • You'll see: sharp lines where two colors meet

  5. 05

    Step 5: Last day: walk-through

We walk every room with you.

    • You do: point out anything you want touched up

    • You'll see: tape off, furniture back, the room cleaned

Questions about the week

How long does a job take?

A bedroom is often one to two days, a few rooms three to five, and a whole house exterior a week or more. The estimate gives a day range and start times, never a promised date.

Do I move the furniture, and can I stay home?

We move and cover furniture, and we cover floors and plants. Most people stay home. Tell us about pets, a baby's nap or a work-from-home day when you book, and we plan the rooms around them.

How do you protect floors, plants and furniture?

Floors get drop cloths or paper, furniture is moved to the room's center and covered, and plants outside are covered or moved before we wash or paint. We vacuum and wipe down at the end of each day.

What does San Diego weather do to an exterior job?

Paint needs a dry surface. On foggy coastal mornings we start later and tell you the day before. If rain is forecast we move the day and say so, and we don't paint over wet stucco.
